Drug Recognition Evaluator School 2018-2, July 17-27, 2018

A drug recognition expert or drug recognition evaluator (DRE) is a police officer trained to recognize impairment in drivers under the influence of drugs other than, or in addition to,  alcohol. The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) coordinates the International Drug Evaluation and Classification (DEC) Program with support from the National Highway  Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Louisiana has approximately 126 certified DREs. 50% are LSP Troopers and 50% are Municipal Officers, Parish Deputies and Wildlife and Fisheries Agents.

The Louisiana State Police Training Academy, Applied Technology Unit, will be hosting a Drug Evaluation and Classification Program, Drug Recognition Expert (DECP/DRE) School from July 17th -27th , 2018,  followed by field certifications for those qualified August 23rd – 29th  , 2018, in Jacksonville, FL. 

This class is funded by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission Grant 2018-30-80 and costs the students’ agencies nothing. If you have a motivated and skilled SFST officer you wish to nominate, please have them fill out the attached application and send it to me.
